Growing up I had the wonderful experience of living
in a neighborhood filled with culture.
From the time I was 5 until I was around 10
we lived beside 5 other families…..
and it just so happened that each family
was from another country. I loved it!
The family right beside us was Italian,
the one next to them was Russian,
the one on the other side was East Indian,
another was Polish,
and then the other family was German.
And then there was us, American.
Six countries were represented on our street.
Once-a-month we would all pull our dining room
tables out onto our front lawns and fix a dish
that was authentic to our own country.
Then we would go around and get to sample
dinners from six different countries in one meal!
It was one of my favorite nights of the month.
I am still fixing many of those recipes that I discovered
during our monthly lawn dinners.
One of my favorites is an East Indian dish called
Keema Curry.
It is super quick and easy.
Ingredients:
1 lb. hamburger
2 cloves garlic
2 oz. oil
1 Tbsp. curry powder {I usually use 2!}
1 Tbsp. ketchup
1 Tbsp. sour cream
1/2 cup cooked peas
Brown rice….cooked
Directions:
Brown the hamburger and drain. Add the garlic, oil, curry, ketchup, and sour cream….simmer until well combined…about 5 minutes. Stir in the peas gently. Serve the meat mixture over brown rice {or your other favorite rice}. This is great served inside peppers!
My family loves this super easy dinner….in fact, my son will ask me to cook it just because of how wonderful it makes the house smell.
Happy Tuesday~
