Since I think our homes should be a reflection of those that live there……I like to change things up with the changing of seasons. Not big changes…just small ones that reflect moving into a new season. Don’t we gain new perspective, shed or take on heavy clothes, hunker down or open up…depending on the season?
I shared the other day that one of my favorite things about autumn is that usually when we bring autumn into our homes it is with natural, simple elements….quite often foraged from our yards for free. It really is the small, simple things that make the difference.
I love going around our home taking pictures. When you live in a space day in and day out you begin to not notice things as much. Quite often when I’m removed from the space and look at a picture of it I see it in a totally different way. Sometimes I notice things that I really don’t like. I share both the pictures I like and don’t like here on the blog…because, well, it is what it is. =) It’s also a great way to chronicle times, seasons, changes…. In us and our home.
I hope that I am always changing and growing….so, if my home reflects that, it, too, will change.
Welcome to our autumn home tour …….
Whether you have a front porch or not….your front door is the first welcome that you and your family have when arriving home, and the first place your guests will be welcomed….if the kitchen is the heart of the home, the porch is the soul.
Lots of fun happens in the living room….Bible studies, movie nights, you name it…it happens here…..
Heirloom pumpkins are my favorite…..
For so many years we didn’t have a mantel….it’s so fun to have this very special one. It’s over 200 years old and was taken from an antebellum home here in the South. It now seems that it’s the first place I like to start when changing things around…..our autumn mantel…
A small, vintage conservatory holds plants and little pumpkins.
A vintage crate full of small pumpkins and dried hydrangeas from our garden.
These little orange striped pumpkins are some of my favorites!
Seed pods and wheat…..
Thin, cotton blankets are switched out for thick, cozy ones…….
We homeschool…and will probably leave this up until the end of October……
Dried lavender from our garden in a grain sack chair.
Ready for an early autumn morning breakfast for a bunch of teen girls…..
Little treats to put at each person’s place on Thanksgiving….
I love simple, autumn centerpieces. This is just a vintage cake stand with a pumpkin and some greenery from our yard on it.
Even the farmhouse sink gets a little pumpkin….a little happy wink for when you’re washing dishes!
Another simple centerpiece….same pumpkin on another vintage stand with oak leaves instead of greenery……
Gorgeous oak leaves from the yard in a vintage bottle….
Ready for an autumn gathering….
Thanks so much for visiting…… =)
