My friend and wonderful photo journalist, Theo Parker, visited our garden on a Sunday and took these wonderful pictures! May and June are my favorite times in our garden—everything is fresh and bursting with new growth. Take a stroll down the garden path and see what’s going on in our cottage garden right now:
Million Bells are creeping around everywhere.
Roses blooming in every corner! These are zephirine drouhin antique climbing roses.
Mock Orange—smells wonderful!
Bright Orange Cone flowers have already made an appearance. They will stay around all summer.
Snowball Bush—a member of the beautiful hydrangea family. Can’t get enough hydrangeas!
Creeping sedum {soon will have lovely, little yellow flowers} in the old wheelbarrow found by the road. 
The garden cart—I would have loved to meet the one that used to push this around selling fresh flowers. It still has the money box attached!
Miss Kim Lilac—YES! We can have lilacs in the south!
Purple baptisia—or False Indigo…..loves hot, dry conditions.
Lily of the Valley…blooming in dark places and light!
Rose Campion–reseeds with wild abandon. Each spring it is fun to see where it shows up–always in large groupings.
David Austin antique cottage roses—spicy and sweet.
Wonderful bearded irises
Hibiscus—wonderful in pots
Waiting……waiting…….waiting……
Pink Scotch Broom
Variegated Privet—when you create a hedge their small white flowers are teeny, but pack a wonderful smell!
Purple clematis
Always good to know you are heading in the right direction……….
Carolina Allspice….or ‘Sweet Betsy’. I grew up with this surrounding my grandmother’s house–the sweet smell still brings memories of visits to grandma’s house!
Pink Dogwood—-NC state flower
We’re not the only ones that like the oregano in the herb garden….
Our favorite place to eat breakfast—-on the porch!

Thanks! We enjoy it—still in progress, though, but that’s the fun! Our garden is my therapy. When I have a bad day my children tell me that I need to go out and dig in some dirt.
{And they are right–it always helps!}

Love your garden, Your flowers are so beautiful. Love the cart, the signs, the birdhouses. Any suggestions for me on a rose bush that is easy to grow in full sun?

If you want an easy rose–you just can’t beat a Knock-Out Rose. You can find them in pink, red, yellow, and sometimes salmon. They resist disease, clean themselves {you don’t have to dead-head}, and are super low maintenance! Hope that helps. {Grandifloras are wonderful, too!}
